Good morning, and happy Sunday! It’s a sunny but oddly chilly May morning here in Tennessee.
Here’s what I found interesting this week:
- READ: Falsehoods programmers believe about time. A classic worth revisiting. Parts of it had me giggling out loud.
- WATCH: Martin Fowler on microservices.
- READ: Conditionality is Filtering, by Robert Pankowecki.
- WATCH: A Netflix Guide to Microservices, by Josh Evans. (But remember that lessons learned at Netflix scale may not apply to everyone…)
- LISTEN: to Carina Zona, Mark Yoon, and Noel Rappin share some excellent advice on creating and submitting conference talks.
Today’s title photo is a stock image, but the next one could be from you!
BRUNCH has a kind of “sister newsletter” called SIGAVDI, where I write less frequently but at greater length about what I’ve been reading and thinking about. Usually with an emphasis on the human, social, and ethical aspects of software development. I bring this up because after a two-month dry spell, I just sent out another issue. You can see a web archive of the latest SIGAVDI here, to see if it’s something you might be interested in receiving.
Thanks for reading, and see you next week!
